ANIMA MUNDI took part in the latest Games for Culture Cluster meeting on June 10 in Brussels, joining 12 European projects working at the intersection of culture, gaming, and innovation. The meeting provided a platform to exchange progress, share key findings, and reflect on how these initiatives contribute to emerging policy developments in the cultural and creative sectors.

The morning session was dedicated to a series of concise project pitches, where each initiative presented its objectives, outcomes, and policy relevance. The presentations highlighted research insights, commercial exploitation potential, and progress achieved since the 2025 cluster meeting. They also encouraged projects to identify opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and reuse.

Although ANIMA MUNDI is not a video games project, its participation in the cluster reflects the growing convergence between creative sectors. As highlighted by the project’s coordinator, Anotnios Vlassis (ULiege) during the meeting, the animation and video games industries are increasingly interconnected, both technically and strategically.

A key priority for ANIMA MUNDI is to build stronger alliances across cultural and creative industries (CCIs), including with the gaming sector. This ambition is grounded in evidence gathered through the project’s workshops with industry professionals, whose insights are presented in the Report on international promotion of European Animation Industry (D4.1).

These findings underline a dual dynamic shaping the relationship between animation and gaming. On the one hand, gaming and immersive media industries, often supported by stronger financial and technological resources, are increasingly attracting animation talent, intensifying competition for skilled professionals. On the other hand, the two sectors are also coming together in successful collaborations, with animated content evolving into games and broader transmedia experiences, opening up new creative and market opportunities.

ANIMA MUNDI’s engagement in the Games for Culture Cluster reinforces its commitment to fostering cross-sector dialogue and cooperation, ensuring that the animation ecosystem remains connected to wider technological and market developments.

The project looks forward to continuing these exchanges and contributing to a shared vision for a more collaborative, innovative, and interconnected European creative landscape.
