ANIMA MUNDI and Animation in Europe host distribution workshop during the first EFM Animation Days in Berlin
On February 14th, 2026, Animation in Europe joined the first-ever EFM Animation Days in Berlin to host a closed-door work session on theatrical distribution as part of the ANIMA MUNDI project. Taking place during the inaugural edition of the EFM Animation Days – the European Film Market’s new platform dedicated exclusively to animation during the Berlinale - the workshop underscored the growing recognition of animation as a central pillar of Europe’s audiovisual ecosystem. ANIMA MUNDI’s presence at this first edition reinforced its role in connecting research, policy and industry practice.
Co-chaired by Animation in Europe board members Mar Saéz Pedrero and Moe Honan, alongside Axel Scoffier, Secretary General of Unifrance, the session marked a milestone in strengthening strategic dialogue within the European animation sector. Bringing together producers, distributors, exhibitors, sales agents, festivals and public institutions, the workshop provided a focused environment to identify sector challenges and propose cross-sector dialogue.
Titled “Boosting the Visibility of European Animated Films”, the working session addressed tools for the promotion, exhibition and marketing of theatrical animation works. Discussions examined industry and regulatory questions, such as dubbing, windowing strategies, territoriality and audience-building mechanisms. Participants explored concrete solutions to enhance the visibility of European animated films both within Europe and globally.
The session also built upon conclusions reached during the last four editions of the Animar_BCN European Animation Convention, where stakeholders identified key strategic priorities: clarifying definitions of European content and IP; improving audience reach through film education, P&A investment and windowing strategies; and strengthening the circulation of works within the European and international markets.
By hosting this strategic work session during the first EFM Animation Days, Animation in Europe and ANIMA MUNDI engaged with the European animation sector at the heart of the international film industry in Berlin. The initiative highlighted the importance of coordinated European action to ensuring that European animated works not only travel widely but achieve visibility and market recognition on the global stage.
