Set-the-Stage Workshops Kick Off in Annecy
ANIMA MUNDI Launches Workshops at the Heart of European Animation
The ANIMA MUNDI team officially launched its Set-the-Stage Workshops at the 2025 edition of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, with the support of consortium member and festival organiser CITIA.
The team hosted two onsite workshop sessions during the Marché international du film d’animation (MIFA), bringing together professionals, creators, producers, and institutional stakeholders across Europe’s dynamic Animation Film Industry Ecosystem. These first in-person sessions allowed the project to collect valuable insights into the sector’s cross-border strengths, persistent challenges, and emerging opportunities. Participants shared views on important issues such as intellectual property management, discoverability of European content, and the potential for international co-productions and partnerships, which are all core areas of inquiry for ANIMA MUNDI.
Beyond the workshops, ANIMA MUNDI’s presence in Annecy aimed to raise awareness of the project’s ambition: to awaken European animation's ‘sleeping giant’ by promoting its visibility and its capacity to serve as a vector for European cultural values, creativity, and cooperation worldwide. The festival’s atmosphere and international audience offered an excellent opportunity to initiate new discussions with stakeholders, explore synergies across sectors, and start developing the tools that the project plans to produce, including the ANIMA MUNDI Dashboard, the IP Toolkit, and the upcoming European Animation Brand.
As part of its forward-looking approach, the team also visited the construction site of the Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation, a major new hub set to open in 2026, symbolising the sector’s ambition and long-term growth.
ANIMA MUNDI continues its research, stakeholder engagement, and co-design activities in the coming months, building the foundations for a more visible, connected, and empowered European Animation Industry Ecosystem.
